    As we practice yoga poses we want to do also inversions. Most common inversions are the Headstand and the Shoulderstand. But there are not only those two poses which are the inverted asanas.

    Any posture in which the head is below the heart is called an inversion. Whether you stand on your head, bend forward or bend back, if your head is below your heart, you are performing an inversion.

    This also means that Downward Facing Dog, Standing Forward Bend and Fish pose are also inversions; although those poses are mild in comparison to a Headstand. The Camel pose can also be an inversion if you bend back far enough.

    Remember – inversions are not for everyone!

    Your intentions should be clear when you perform any yoga posture. If the risks may outweigh the benefits there is no logical reason why you should practice any pose which can harm you.

    Contraindications for practicing inversions:

    If you have any of the following conditions, please omit inversions or work with a qualified and experienced teacher who will never put you at risk and tried to modify your practice.

    Anyone who has high blood pressure, heart related problems, eye issues, neck problems, epilepsy, previous stroke or sinus problems should never practice Headstand or Shoulderstand, and omit other mild inversions or be adjusted by the yoga teacher.

    During any stage of pregnancy yoga should be practiced in a prenatal yoga classes specifically designed for that purpose or privately with a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher.

    During menstruation Headstand and Shoulderstand preferably should be omitted and other milder inversions should not be hold for long, but because of the controversy about the inversions during menstruation it is your personal choice. Let your body guide you.

    If you are a yoga teacher explain to your students why the inversions can be dangerous for them if they have any of the condition mentioned earlier.

    Why not stand on your head when you have pain in your neck or neck injury? What first thing will come to your mind as you there? Ouch … my neck! Can my small neck carry my whole weight as I am inverted?

    Most students put lots of weight on their head and neck instead of shoulders. Use your common sense and listen to your body. Intuition will never let you down.

    Why omit headstand if I have high blood pressure? Because the danger is when your blood pressure increase from 100/60 mm Hg while standing on your feet to 150/110 mm Hg or even higher when you go for headstand.

Resistance to change causes us to lie to ourselves all the time. Our mind considers these healthy lies and it makes us feel better about not being the person we dream of being.
    Here are 3 “healthy” lies you must stop telling yourself for they are keeping you from the healthy life full of happiness you dream of.

    Lie # 1: I cant live a healthy life because of my genetics

    Think to yourself for a minuteis that really true?

    Why do we give ourselves this free pass? We tell ourselves things like “well, my whole family is overweight”, “well, my mother or father had cancer”, “well, Im destined to be this way” This is our resistance talking and keeping you from the healthy life you deserve. Its a bunch of baloney. Did you know that by the time you reach 50, your lifestyle, including your diet, determines 80% of how you age! The remaining 20% is inherited through genetics.

    Truth: Genetics do not determine your health or quality of life, it is your choices.

    Lie #2: I cant live a healthy life because I have no control when it comes to food

    Think to yourself for a minuteis this really true?

    You absolutely have control over what you put into your body. Your inner resistance is making you believe this crazy thought. Be careful, sometimes you cannot trust what you think, because its simply not true.

    Truth: You have a choice. I used to eat whatever I wanted and it was all food that did nothing to nourish my body. It took being diagnosed with an auto immune disorder that made me stop and think about what I was doing to myself. I made a choice to give my body the nutrients I need every day because of what I want out of life. I want to not just watch my children grow, but be actively involved. Show them how to run and get the winning goal, show them the view from the top of the mountain, dance at their weddings, and play vigorously with my future grandchildren.

    Lie #3: I cant live a healthy life because its too late, the damage has been done

    Think to yourself for a minuteis this really true?

    Is it possible that after years of neglecting your body, that you could live the healthful life you were meant to live?

    Its never too late! Our human body has the incredible ability to heal itself given the right nutrients. The dietary and lifestyle choices you make everyday help to shape the underlying causes of most diseases and illnesses.

    Autism spectrum disorder can take many forms. For many children, it is first diagnosed by verbal developmental delays and by an inability to communicate thoughts and ideas in a verbal manner. This is unfortunately a very common occurrence for children with autism spectrum disorder, and while it is certainly difficult for both parents and children, the good news is that there is treatment available. ABA therapy, or Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, is very effective at helping to improve verbal behavior for autistic children, and it is the most widely approved treatment available for children with an autism spectrum disorder.

    ABA therapy works through the use of discretionary trial teaching. This method of teaching essentially breaks down a desired behavior or action into the most basic possible steps. Each step is repeated as often as needed until it is able to be mimicked. The steps are first taught using verbal and other prompts, and as the child learns to mimic the behavior, the prompts are slowly taken away until the child can exhibit the action on his or her own. When this happens, the next step is taught and so on until the behavior itself has been learned.

    ABA therapy is incredibly effective, and part of this is due to the way that attention is given throughout the process. While most children learn and benefit from scolding and correction, the same is not true for children with autism spectrum disorder. Instead, scolding or correction is still seen as attention, and positive and negative attention are not weighed differently. With ABA therapy, negative or unwanted actions and verbal behaviors are simply ignored, while appropriate actions and behaviors are rewarded through praise or other rewards. This helps to teach children that appropriate behaviors will offer attention, while negative behaviors award none.

    Whenever a child is experiencing verbal delays or communication problems, ABA therapy should certainly be considered. Many school systems offer the training, and there are excellent DVD courses available for both parents and schools. For most children, receiving intensive ABA therapy at both home and school at the earliest age possible offers the most hope for recovery. With proper training, many children are even able to function in a traditional classroom setting. ABA therapy is truly beneficial for children with autism spectrum disorder and can help make life much easier for parents and children alike, especially when it comes to teaching verbal behavior skills.

    We currently have another wrongful death lawsuit, however this one involves 2 hospitals that displayed the same negligence. The suit is against UMC Hospital in Las Vegas, as well as Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.

    The suit alleges the plaintiff, Roshunda Abney came in to the hospital with severe stomach pains and essentially, the hospital said they were to busy to help here. Both hospitals turned her away saying they were to busy to help her.
    There are many scenarios that could definitely come up in trial. Many many he said, she said situations. However, the major isssue is EMTALA Rules. Basically these are the rules that determine how every hospital must conduct business, especially when someone is in pain. In a brief conclusion of the rules states that the hospital may not create a hostile environment in which causing a patient in pain to leave the hospital. Basically, all people with pain must be looked at first if in your hospital, and you have to be nice.

    A major issue here is, the nurse was clearly rude to the plaintiff, and rude to the other patients according to witnesses. However, the major issue is that Roshunda Abney was pregnant, and subsequently delivered the baby on her own and the baby died.

    Valley hospital is also in the suit claiming their nurses were rude and making unprofessional remarks, which seems to be heightened because they had the chance to correct the wrongduing of UMC hospital, but instead decided to make it worse.

    The moral of the story here is Healthcare in America is in serious peril. The true feeling and understanding of the atmosphere during both exchanges at each hospital will never be known. But it leads to an interesting feeling of helplessness when a person is hurt. The hospital should be the safest, most reassuring place to be when you are hurt. Instead it has turned into a tense fight for control. Hospitals proving they are in control, in which they clearly are, and the patient in a panic for their safety and sometimes life.

    If only these healthcare places could remember what they are in the business for. They way I understand it, healthcare is designed “Protect and promote the health of patients and the public.” Hmm epic fail here!
