Kundalini Yoga addresses issues, both at the corporeal and the emotional levels on the spiritual plane. As a result, one of the benefits of Kundalini Yoga, at the physical level, is weight reduction. As a matter of fact, practicing a specific set of asanas (exact movements culminating in certain precise postures) along with breathing procedures under the Kundalini Yoga realm will provide people many rewards that include continued sense of tranquility, stronger limbs, better flexibility, and reduced weight. Weight loss Kundalini Yoga is a fabulous program for people concerned with weight loss.

The particular asanas and the breathing that are part of Kundalini Yoga are meant to burn the body fat of the practitioners and increase their metabolism. Such positive changes help the body to optimize the body weight, fitness, and the state of health. Some of the details of these distinct benefits are stiffness-free joints that are more flexible, fewer arthritis flare-ups, and also reduced blood pressure as well as decreased cholesterol levels.

A highly respected teacher of Kundalini Yoga and a pioneer in the field of prenatal yoga is Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. Just after the dawn of the New Millennium (2002, to be exact), she co-founded along with Gurutej Kaur, the leading yoga center named Golden Bridge in Los Angeles. She also officiates as its director. Another institution that she founded and which is very close to her heart is Khalsa Way. It is a movement that aims to create proper awareness and provide education on child birth to help mothers.

Over the years, she has authored a series of books and DVDs on Kundalini Yoga. The DVDs include, ‘Kundalini Yoga: Healthy Body Fearless Spirit,’ ‘Kundalini Yoga – Unlock Your Spiritual Energy,’ and, ‘Pre Natal Kundalini Yoga and Meditation for Mothers to be.’ All these are available at the web site www.yogatech.com at Yoga Technology.

Zafus – Creating Proper Posture Daily
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years in Eastern cultures as a means of finding truth and enlightenment. Today it has been picked up by many westerners as a means of relieving stress and strain in their daily lives. However, many westerners find the traditional lotus sitting position on the bare ground a bit too strenuous on their bottom and legs; therefore, the use of a zafu is recommended to provide greater comfort. A zafu is the name given to a special cushion you can sit on for meditating. They help you maintain the correct posture as well as provide comfort for your bottom during your session.

    Filling Meditation Cushions
Zafus are manufactured out of cotton fabrics with natural fiber kapok filling. They come in a variety of colors, shapes, sizes and designs to suit personal taste and preference. They also come with removable covers, facilitating the laundering when the exterior becomes soiled. The traditional zafu is round; however, other shapes are coming out on the market to offer variation and levels of comfort. These cushions also vary in size and thickness to adjust to a person’s body and weight level for individualized comfort.

    Thickness of the Zafu
There are advantages to using a meditation cushion as opposed to any other type cushion for your sessions. These cushions are especially designed for meditation; the kapok filling provides a firm, yet pliable surface to sit on for comfort and back posture, and the natural fibers are both hygienic and hypoallergenic, making them a perfect selection for those who are prone to allergies. In addition, the diversity in thickness and size can complement the size and weight of your body, customizing your cushion to your exact specifications. Each cushion comes with its own cover (or you can purchase separately) that can be easily removed for washing when the need arises.

    Different-Shaped Zafus
New zafu styles include the crescent shape cushion designed to provide additional space for your bottom. Thickness of the cushion can be self adjusted by adding or removing kapok to the desired depth, providing extra padding for heavier set people or less for those who are thinner and smaller boned. For those who desire more height, support cushions are available to place under the zafu, raising your body to a higher level.

Meditation Chairs – The Throne of Meditation
As an alternative to these cushions, some people prefer to use a meditation chair during their sessions. You should feel free to use whatever is most comfortable for you and helps you focus on meditating itself so you can fully benefit from the experience. Meditating offers a number of wonderful mental and physical benefits to the body which can help improve your mental and physical health, regardless of the seating arrangement used.

    Ancient History of Yoga

Although yoga has only recently become more popular in the west, the practice of yoga has been used in the east for thousands of years. The history of yoga begins in the times of ancient Indian asceticism, which was found in the Indus Valley civilization which existed in 3300 to 1700 BC. When examining historical sites where there are ruins with figures in artwork and on walls, the history of yoga can be seen since there are often figures that are in positions that are distinctly yoga poses that are still used today. There are other picture histories that show many different yoga activities that confirm the history of yoga in this, very ancient, civilization.

    The Next Civilizations

There are some other practices of yoga mentioned in the Vedas, which are found in 800 to 100 BC and are still used in different meditations. The history of yoga continues into the recent times as the practice of the different forms of yoga has been refined and reconfigured throughout the ages.

There are many different types of yoga that have been passed down through the years in the history of yoga. There is the Hatha yoga style which is usually slow paced and gentle in comparison to other styles and is a good introductory style for users to practice when beginning. There is also the Vinyasa style of yoga in the history of yoga. This type of yoga provides a combination of the yoga poses and the breathing techniques that are practiced in this form of yoga. This style is a little more vigorous than the Hatha style, and there are some combined poses that follow one after another in a series. One common series is called the Sun Salutation, which is often used in repetition to warm up or warm down in a yoga class.

Another style of yoga in the history of yoga is called the Iyengar style, which emphasizes not just the poses, but also the alignment of the body in the poses to make sure that the person is doing them correctly. The Kundalini style is one that uses the breathing method of rapid breaths in conjunction with the physical poses to create a freeing of the energy in the body, thus making it healthier. Finally, there is the style of yoga that is called Bikram yoga, which is practiced in very hot conditions and is very vigorous. The room should be about 95 to 100 degrees so that the participants sweat a lot to let out toxins.

Meditation is though as overrated nowadays. Most people think that meditation is for Buddhist monks and nuns. But what most people do fail to realize is that all of us meditate, we just tend to use different meditation techniques.

Most of us think that meditation is deeply connected to religion. True enough, Meditation has been in rooted with religion but it is not limited to such. For instance, in Hinduism, they practice meditation techniques that involve proper posture, breathing and chanting mantras. They believe that this meditation can lead them to self realization, empowerment, come closer to Brahman god like discernment and the wisdom to attain peace and resolve worldly matters.

In Buddhism, They practice meditation techniques which also involve posture, breathing and chanting. They also believe that they can resolve worldly matters, attain inner peace, self realization, empowerment and wisdom. The difference is that in Buddhism, They do not believe that they can be closer to their god. In fact, they do not have a god. They believe that their meditation techniques can help them achieve the eight noble truths and finally find themselves in Nirvana. They believe that being close to these eight noble truths is Zen itself.

In Christianity, their meditation techniques are simpler. They believe that meditation is prayer. They detach themselves from the physical world and focus on their god. They believe that this technique would bring them to a personal conversation with Jesus Christ. In doing so, they can get help by solving worldly matters, uplifting their spirits, clearing their thoughts and being guided through every decision. They describe deep reflection and having an epiphany as having a piece of what they can call heaven. Its like heaven on earth.

The Native Americans have the same objectives in mind: self realization, purpose, inner peace, guidance, peace and problem solving. Yet, they have different meditation techniques. Their meditation involves the use of peace pipes, dancing, chanting, pilgrimages and other forms of sacrifices that has been innate in them.

Although it might sound absurd, Atheists also meditate. They might not think that they do not, but they actually do! They practice different meditation techniques but like religion, they arrive at the same results; self realization, solving problems, inner peace, decision making, selflessness and finding a different point of view. Their meditation techniques involve taking a walk, listening to soothing music, sitting on the roof, etc. Therefore, may it be in a religious way or not, we all practice meditation techniques that are almost similar with each others views.

Eight Minute Meditation Can you give you peace of mind and change your life forever?

What exactly is meditation? Nowadays a lot of people are connected to this form of activity. By definition, the word meditation is used to describe a state of intense attention on an object or a thought of an individual. The individual tries to focus his attention inward. Meditation is a native of Vedic Hinduism. It is usually practiced in Eastern religions but nowadays, Western culture is already deeply involved in this activity .
People practice meditation so that they can focus their mind for their personal development, to achieve peace of mind and to be healthier.

Many Westerners are now practicing some form of meditation. According to Time Magazine, there is a practice of meditation that can be used by almost anyone. It can be seen as a basic primer for Westerners wanting to begin meditation without having any idea where to start.

Eight minutes of daily meditation can bring you a lot already.
Each individual starting a new activity, often with questions, doubts and hopes. There are even some people who hope that when they begin to think they will be enlightened. Or maybe you’re one of those people who think that meditation is like exercise or diet you’ve tried to do in recent months. But that’s normal, so do not be surprised if you’re one of them.
The best thing to do is to forget all these positive ideas and / or negative, and start without preconceptions. If you want to try meditation, you must learn how to approach it one minute at a time.
While many people think that meditation is a simple practice, you should think twice. You might not notice it, but your mind wanders still here and there. You can not concentrate. According to some practitioners, you must monitor your breathing. This is the first stage of meditation. You need to inhale and exhale deeply.

When you begin to meditate, if you find yourself thinking about other things, or in other words, if your mind wanders, focus on your breathing again for yoga and health.. After all, the merger is part of meditation and if you realize that you lost, you can always come slowly to this state of mind. Do not give up easily and keep practicing. There is a popular saying that “it’s practice makes perfect”, keep that in mind. If you give up easily, then you will remain a loser.

As we practice yoga poses we want to do also inversions. Most common inversions are the Headstand and the Shoulderstand. But there are not only those two poses which are the inverted asanas.

Any posture in which the head is below the heart is called an inversion. Whether you stand on your head, bend forward or bend back, if your head is below your heart, you are performing an inversion.

This also means that Downward Facing Dog, Standing Forward Bend and Fish pose are also inversions; although those poses are mild in comparison to a Headstand. The Camel pose can also be an inversion if you bend back far enough.

Remember – inversions are not for everyone!

Your intentions should be clear when you perform any yoga posture. If the risks may outweigh the benefits there is no logical reason why you should practice any pose which can harm you.

    Contraindications for practicing inversions:

If you have any of the following conditions, please omit inversions or work with a qualified and experienced teacher who will never put you at risk and tried to modify your practice.

Anyone who has high blood pressure, heart related problems, eye issues, neck problems, epilepsy, previous stroke or sinus problems should never practice Headstand or Shoulderstand, and omit other mild inversions or be adjusted by the yoga teacher.

During any stage of pregnancy yoga should be practiced in a prenatal yoga classes specifically designed for that purpose or privately with a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher.

During menstruation Headstand and Shoulderstand preferably should be omitted and other milder inversions should not be hold for long, but because of the controversy about the inversions during menstruation it is your personal choice. Let your body guide you.

If you are a yoga teacher explain to your students why the inversions can be dangerous for them if they have any of the condition mentioned earlier.

Why not stand on your head when you have pain in your neck or neck injury? What first thing will come to your mind as you there? Ouch … my neck! Can my small neck carry my whole weight as I am inverted?

Most students put lots of weight on their head and neck instead of shoulders. Use your common sense and listen to your body. Intuition will never let you down.

Why omit headstand if I have high blood pressure? Because the danger is when your blood pressure increase from 100/60 mm Hg while standing on your feet to 150/110 mm Hg or even higher when you go for headstand.

If you’re still using a regular yoga mat, your hands and feet may slide out from under you once you start to sweat.

There are many mats on the market now that can help keep you from slipping and sliding.

These non-slip yoga mats are more expensive, but can make your yoga experience much more enjoyable.

Your investment in a more expensive mat will pay off over time, especially if yoga is an everyday part of your life and not a passing fancy.

These upscale yoga mats rely on superior materials and textures that grip to prevent sliding, slipping, and skidding.

Here are the leading non-slip yoga mats currently available:

The Manduka BlackMatPRO has been the most popular premium yoga mat for years, and one reason is because you don’t slide on the mat even when it’s wet with sweat. It is also one of the most expensive mats on the market, but fans say the extra cost is worth it. Though heavy, the dense materials used in contruction of the mat are very supportive, even in standing balancing yoga poses. This Manduka mat stays in place on hard or soft surfaces, like carpet.

Hugger Mugger Tapas Performance Yoga Mat: Once called the Mandara, this top rated yoga mat shares many of the qualities of the Manduka Black Mat Pro. This mat is much cheaper in cost, however.

Manduka PROlite Yoga Mat: This mat is much like the bigger and heavier Black Mat PRO, only it comes in more colors and is the same size as a regular sticky mat. It is a great mat for vinyasa, Bikram Yoga, and hot yoga because it is lighter yet prevents skidding, sliding, and slipping. And it is very affordable.

Jade Fusion Yoga Mat: This thick mat is made of open-cell natural rubber, so it’s very eco-friendly. Having open cells gives the mat a texture that has a lot of grab, which prevents sliding. The thick natural rubber is very cushioning and supportive, and dense enough to support you in standing and balancing poses. This is also a great mat to prevent soreness in the wrists and knees from floor poses.

Jade Harmony Yoga Mat: Also an eco-friendly natural rubber mat, it is 3/16-inch thick. This is one of the most popular yoga mats ever made, and one of the major selling points is that it is non-slip. It is lighter than the Jade Fusion, which makes it easier to carry. Just be aware that some people don’t care for open cell mats because they pick up dirt and can absorb sweat and odor.

I hope this non-slip yoga mats review will help you find the right yoga mat to buy so you can stop sliding in your yoga classes.

Though Yoga (hot) has lately turn out to be popular in western cultures, it’s a practice which has been in existence for hundreds of years within India. Many individuals now grow to be students of Hot Yoga simply because of the amplified set of health benefits that outcomes from the distinction in heat.
Performed in a ‘hot room’, hot yoga gives students with a bunch of health benefits. Here are 5 techniques for learners to maximise health benefits obtained from Hot Yoga.

    1. Set to it that you follow your class plan.
Attending hot yoga classes always is good, but it’ll not be consistent enough in your lifestyle to have a good impact. Try and attend a hot yoga class at least two times a week, so that your body becomes used to the heat and stretches being conducted on a regular basis.
    2. Eat a sensible diet
With any healthly way of life and exercise programme, a well balanced diet is paramount. Your diet need to contain a lot of complex carbohydrates and proteins, allowing the body to refuel itself and repair torn muscle fibres. Having basic carbohydrates such as fruit is a fast way of gaining energy, just just before a class or just after (to regain energy quickly). Make certain your
fat intake is low and your fibre intake is high, allowing your food to be broken up and used far more efficiently.
    3. Stretch out your muscles outside of the class
By allowing your body to become supple outside of the class in normal temperatures, you’ll be able to see bigger differences in your flexibility within the hot classes you attend. This will enable you to push beyond your boundaries, allowing your body to grow to be a lot more supple and muscles more stronger.
    4. Try another sorts of yoga classes.
Ashtanga Yoga instructional classes or Hatha Yoga classes are other common varieties of Yoga, based on the health advantages that they promote. Mix up your weekly schedule by attending these other classes, as well as flow classes which need you to continue yoga movements in sequence, making the class far more challenging.
    5. Don’t forget your 2 liters of drinking water per day.
Drinking a lot of water allows toxins to be flushed out of your system and more importantly for your body to be properly hydrated at all times. The slightest bit of dehydration can trigger you to underperform and not reach your full potential, so ensure you drink 2 litres of water per day, as well as taking a bottle of water to your hot yoga class.
